Laser Rejuvenation
For over 50 years, lasers have been in use, not only for the treatment of pigmentation, vascular lesions, veins, redness, acne, sun damage and removal of unwanted hair but also for skin laxity, lines and wrinkles. Laser and light devices have the ability to resurface, rejuvenate as well as stimulate collagen production.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation is an innovative facial resurfacing method that incorporates concentrated beams of light to improve the skin’s appearance. This laser energy penetrates deep into the dermis, triggering collagen and elastin production, leading to enhanced cell regeneration, and ultimately reducing visible signs of ageing.
Laser Genesis with Nd:YAG is a non-invasive and non-ablative laser treatment that promotes overall skin rejuvenation to improve skin tone, reduce lines and wrinkles and smooth pigmentation, remove acne scars, and reduce redness and rosacea with minimal recovery time.
The warmth of this procedure is applied to the upper layer of your skin, causing it to stimulate collagen production and cell rejuvenation. Not only does this process reduce superficial signs of ageing, but it also tightens underlying tissues for a more youthful appearance.
In addition, the warmth from the laser beam will also have an exfoliating effect on the upper layer of the epidermis and help shed dead cells. By breaking the superficial pigmentation, your skin tone will be more even.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Many Sessions Are Necessary?
You may require an average of 3 to 6 treatments spaced around a month apart for the best results. As every patient’s condition is different, the necessary number of sessions will be customised to each patient.
Results are subtle after the first session, but the overall effect will be more consistent after several sessions. Benefits continue to increase in intensity by the number of treatments received. Because collagen will be produced long after each treatment, most patients will continue to see benefits for some time after completing all the sessions.
What Can I Expect During and After the Treatment?
The treatment is normally very gentle and relaxing. Most patients report very few side effects and are able to return immediately to their daily activities. The gentle heating of the upper layer of your skin may cause mild discomfort, and the most common side effect is slight redness which disappears shortly after the treatment.
The warmth from the laser beam will also have an exfoliating effect on the upper layer of the epidermis and help shed dead cells. However, unlike peels, laser rejuvenation does not peel the skin after a session. The effect of the laser continues to stimulate the skin months after the treatment, as collagen will be produced long after each treatment.
The treatment can be combined with other treatment modalities for a complete series of aesthetic therapies.
What Are the Contraindications and Risks of Laser Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation is safe; however, we strongly discourage the treatment while you are exposing yourself to the sun or artificial tanning and if you are currently, or plan to be, pregnant.
It is advised not to expose the treated area to the sun (minimum 6 weeks without exposure before the session). Furthermore, we advise you to apply UV protection 8 weeks before and 2 to 3 weeks after a session. In addition, avoid self-tanning creams to avoid any risk of burns.
It is essential to inform your doctor about any medication you are on before a session because it may cause skin sensitivity or react with a laser.
Dr Miller is here to help
Before getting your treatment, Dr Miller will see you for an initial skin consultation where your concerns can be assessed, as well as your suitability for individual treatments. It is important to make sure you don’t have another medical condition or are on any medications that may interfere with the treatments. She will also ask about supplements and may recommend you discuss any medication changes with your doctor before treatment.
If your consultation determines that you are a suitable candidate for Laser Skin Rejuvenation, and if you’re not currently tanned, she will perform a patch test. Patch tests must take place at least 48 hrs before your first session. This is carried out by applying the laser to a small part of the target area and monitoring. Even if you had laser treatments on some other areas of your body, for each and every new area, we need to perform a new patch test. This is because your skin may be more sensitive in some areas, and the technology, circumstances, and your condition might have changed since then.
If your skin is suitable for laser treatment, she will create your personal treatment plan, and discuss with you the potential benefits as well as its possible side effects. She may use laser therapy as a single treatment or in combination with other approaches to enhance the results and complete a series of aesthetic therapies. Then you will be booked in and ready for your first laser appointment.
